The Extended Project Qualification (EPQ)
The Extended Project Qualification is a Level 3 qualificaition which is worth the same UCAS points as an AS level but the same level of challenge as an A level. The EPQ is part of the AQA Baccalaureate.
The EPQ is an independent research project. Students can choose their own title according to their interests providing it does not directly cross over with work covered in their A level subjects.
There are three parts to the EPQ; firstly a log which records the development of the project, the final product and a presentation.
For the final product students can opt to either write a 5,000 word essay or a 1,000 word essay alongside an artefact. This could be a piece of music, a piece of artwork, DVD, performance etc
